Historical Sight-Seeing Day!

 Historical Day: Westminster Abbey

Today was very much a sight-seeing day of many important cultural and historical places that are significant to Britain. We started the day with a two hour long tour of Westminster Abbey. I had very little prior knowledge on the government in the UK and the rich history it encompassed. Our tour guide was a local and very passionate and knowledgeable about the site and its history, making the tour super engaging and informative. I really appreciated his British sense of humor! I had no idea about all of the famous people that were buried there. My favorite part was the burial of the unknown soldier that represented all of the lost soldiers in WW1. I have a class solely focused on WW1 where I learned about this memorial so seeing it in person was very cool! After the church, we went to a classic British lunch serving meat pies at the Red Lion Pub. Next, we then went to St. Martins in the Fields church and it's underground Cafe in the Crypt for coffee, dessert, and to chat with Suzy Levy. She is a super cool author of the book, Mind the Inclusion Gap, and activist for women's rights in sports which I found super inspiring! She won the MBE (Member of the British Empire)  award and gets to meet the King in April to receive this honor. To end the day, we did a quick tour of the National Gallery museum and got to see many famous paintings, including Sunflower by Vincent Van Gough which is one of my favorites! I learned a lot today and I'm thankful for this opportunity to broden my worldview and experience new perspectives!

Daydream latte: honey, vanilla, and cinnamon!

Blank Street Storefront

I started the day off right with coffee and tried a new local place that is super popular called Blank Street. They had many flavor options and specialized in Matcha as well. It reminded me of Starbucks with all of the flavor options and seasonal drinks, but much cheaper! I got an iced vanilla honey cinnamon latte with oat milk and it cost £4.4. It was very sweet and probably my favorite coffee I've had here so far -- I would definitely go back!

  1. Sounds like this was a day with a latte wisdom in one sitting - underground coffee, sweet treats, and a strong advocate like Suzy Levy? Talk about raising the barista!
