Bucket List Day: Borough Market
The Borough Market
Checking it off the bucket list: the Borough market definitely lived up to my expectations! This was a place I had seen all over social media before coming to London and it was 100% worth the hype. I have always enjoyed going to Farmer's markets back in Minnesota, specifically the Mill City Farmer's Market every Saturday in the summer. The Borough market was 3x the size of any farmer's market I have ever been to. It was covered with vendors selling fresh produce, hot and ready food items, and little trinkets and homemade goods. It was hard to move around with how crowded the streets were and the lines were crazy long. I started by getting a coffee (of course). I looked at many different places and most had very plain, basic coffee options. I settled for a Colombian-based coffee stand and got a hot mocha with oat milk. The chocolate flavor was very rich and delicious, however, it was pricey. It cost £6 for a small cup. I then went to find lunch. The options were endless with food from almost any part of the world. I decided to get street tacos: a roasted potato and chicken asado one. Both had salsa verde and were on the milder side and very tasty! The best part was dessert. We got the famous chocolate-covered strawberries in a cup! So so good as the chocolate hardened on the strawberries, making it both sweet and refreshing! An overall amazing experience and I can't wait to go back someday!
We also had super fun activities both before and after the market, making this a very busy day! We started the day with a scavenger hunt at the British museum. We broke up into teams of three and competed to see who could find ten items around the museum first. Unfortunately, my team did not win, but still super cool and interesting experience. Then after the market, we went to a local chocolate shop called Melange for a chocolate tasting! We got to learn about the history of chocolate making and all of the steps that go into the process which I never realized. We then played a game where we would taste the chocolate and try to guess different notes/flavors, the percent cacao, and where the chocolate originated from. Even though I was very bad at the game, it was a very enjoyable experience where I learned a lot and got to try some delicious chocolate!
Sounds like your trip to Borough Market was brewing with excitement! From fresh produce to trinkets, it seems like there was a latte to explore. The long lines may have been a bit of a grind, but hey, a good coffee moment can make everything feel a little mocha better. Even at £6, your hot mocha sounds like it was worth every drop for that rich chocolatey flavor! Truly a grounds-breaking experience for your bucket list. Love you!
