FIRST DAY in London!!!
First Day in London!
Longgg travel day! We flew overnight and had a layover in Iceland and then arrived at our hotel in London at around 1pm. I slept very little on both plane rides, maybe three hours total, so coffee was the top priority! We tried a super cute little coffee shop just around the corner from our hotel called Crepe, Coffee, and Chai. It was very bright in there, with windows lining the walls and decorative plant and floral arrangements! I ordered an iced vanilla latte with oat milk and a spinach, feta, and sun-dried tomato omelette. The coffee options were pretty standard: latte, americano, mocha, macchiato, etc. and the flavor options were limited: hazelnut, caramel, and vanilla. There were many non-coffee alternatives as well including smoothies, teas, and hot chocolate. I enjoyed my drink and food, but the coffee was definitely on the sweeter side. Also, a bit pricey, the latte was £6 and the omelette was £11. Overall I would rate my experience a 7/10.
Outside of the coffee shop experience, we had a lot of time to get settled and begin exploring London! We went to a local drug store called Boots and the supermarket called Sainsburys. There were many unique specialty items I have never seen in the US. We dedicated time to walking around the city and seeing local vendors and street performers. The sidewalks were packed so we had to stop every few blocks to make sure we didn't lose anyone! We got dinner at a local Fish and Chips place and macarons for dessert afterwards: I got a milk chocolate praline and a brown butter caramel one! I am excited to learn more about the culture and norms in the city of London and how their culinary experience differs from the US.
An overall very busy and fun-filled day!
Time for a good night of sleep!
I am curious to hear how you will compare your first coffee experience to other java options you will try in the coming days. Are all coffees other than plain, brewed coffee sweeter than in the US? And are the British as caffeinated as Americans are?
ReplyDeleteHello RunnerMom! I will keep my blog updated on the coffee drinks I try each day! The plain brewed coffee from the hotel seemed such stronger and more bitter than the US! And YES! Everyone seems to run on coffee here as there are coffee shops on every corner and they are open all day!
DeleteLooks just scrumptious izzy!😃 the omelet and coffee looks very yummy. Did they happen to have chai there? I would assume they do since it is in the name, but you didn’t mention it in your post. Can’t wait to see more reviews!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lelepaulsen! Yes, they did have chai there! I did not try it but it looked very good and authentic - not like Starbucks chai haha!
DeleteThis looks very yummy!! The coffee and the omelette look very delicious!! I'm curious as to what you thought about the Fish and Chips? It wasn't my cup of tea (no pun intended haha!), but I know a lot of people really like it
